MEU May 24 newsletter

In May, Music Export Ukraine was bustling with activity, spearheading initiatives to elevate the Ukrainian music industry on both national and international stages. We eagerly prepared to announce the open call for participation in the fourth iteration of our flagship project, Eastern European Music Academy (EEMA) — a hybrid capacity-building project aimed at advancing the careers of independent music professionals across several Eastern European countries.

Our top 10 students from the EEMA Winter iteration just attended the Athens Music Week festival & conference as a delegation. EEMA was highlighted at the Athens Music Week Network Mixer, and we held a closed meeting where EEMA Alumni had the opportunity to practice their elevator pitches in front of industry experts. Some students were invited to participate as speakers in the Athens Music Week panel discussions. We are extremely grateful to the festival & conference organizers and our partners from RAW Music and Lala Slovak Music Export for an amazing and productive time together.

We are delighted to be featured in the publication "The Women Moving Ukraine’s Underground, Part 1: Metal, Mobilisation and Music," as part of collaboration with 20ft Radio, Neformat, the British Council, and Ukrainian Institute. This insightful piece shed light on the challenges and triumphs of women in the Ukrainian music scene during wartime, highlighting the invaluable contributions of artists like IGNEA's Helle Bogdanova and MEU's commitment to fostering female representation and empowerment within the industry. As we navigate the complexities of the current landscape, MEU remains steadfast in our mission to champion Ukrainian talent on the global stage, adapt to evolving circumstances, and foster a more inclusive and equitable music community.

Meanwhile, our team actively engaged in networking opportunities, such as our presence at the c/o pop Festival and Convention 2024, where six Ukrainian managers and artists seized opportunities for career expansion and collaboration. We had the pleasure of organizing 'Meet Ukrainians' breakfast, where guests came to meet our delegates and had a chance to listen to a fine selection of Ukrainian music hand-picked by DJ Anna Aloka. We extend heartfelt gratitude to all who joined us in celebrating the unifying power of music and supported our endeavors!

We are pleased to announce that Music Export Ukraine is an official partner of the innovative project POLYGLOT – the European Song Exchange Incubator, co-funded by the EU, which sets up a new song distribution model in order to boost local talent, empower European diversity, as well as to break the generic industry trends and the dominance of English language.

POLYGLOT connects Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Spain (Catalonia), and Ukraine and accompanies 30 songs per participating country from birth to distribution, on the road to success in a new language, in a new country. Selected songs will be translated into multiple languages, recorded by local artists, and promoted in partner countries. Stay tuned for exciting updates!

After a three-year hiatus, ATLAS festival is back with a bang! It will take place on July 12-14. More than 70 artists will play on 6 stages that will be installed on the territory of the shopping center and in the underground parking lot. The goal is to raise at least 100 million hryvnias, with part of the funds allocated for purchasing essential equipment through the UNITED24 fundraising platform.

Meanwhile, "Shum" by Go A has reached 100 million streams on Spotify! While this timeless anthem continues to unite listeners worldwide, serving as a symbol of spring, joy, and unity, we invite you to join us in celebrating the creativity and talent of Ukrainian musicians:
