MEU April 23 newsletter

We hope you are enjoying the beginning of May and taking advantage of the warmer weather and longer days to discover new music and connect with fellow music lovers. As always, we have some exciting updates and events to share with you this month about Ukraine's vibrant music scene.

First up, we're thrilled to announce that the iconic Ukrainian band Vopli Vidopliassova's "Tantsi" has been released on vinyl for Record Store Day 2023. The album features a foldout insert with liner notes by Maria Sonevytsky, who has also written a book about the album for 33 ⅓ book series. The limited edition release will consist of 2,000 copies worldwide, pressed on transparent orange vinyl. We're certain that fans of Ukrainian punk and Soviet-era music will be thrilled to get their hands on this release.

We also want to bring your attention to Eurovision 2023, which will take place in Liverpool. The city will transform into a small festival city during Eurovision days, with plenty of events happening, including the Xpresia festival. Xpresia brings together different forms of electronic and performing arts within one carefully curated program, celebrating diversity, inclusion, and creative freedom of expression. This unique festival is collaboratively produced by both British and Ukrainian creative producers and curators to deliver something truly special. Worth mentioning Resident Advisor documentary "Ukraine: Nightlife in Resistance," which explores how Ukraine's electronic music scene has been affected by the russian invasion. Co-produced by RA and TABOR, the film examines the topic through the lens of six unique stories, each one identifying how the scene changed overnight. Among the personalities featured are drag performer and bouncer Vlad Shast, electronic composer Heinali, DJ, promoter, and bar owner Garik Pledov, and the teams behind venues Closer, Module, and TU.
