MEU March 24 newsletter

MEU March 24 newsletter

As the first signs of spring begin to bloom and the days grow longer, we're excited to share with you the latest news from Ukraine. In this month's newsletter, we're not just celebrating the change of seasons; we're also spotlighting the incredible talent and resilience of our artists, who continue to create, inspire, and unite us through their music.

March kicked off with the celebration of International Women's Day, and what better way to honor this occasion than by spotlighting the influential female artists who are molding the European music scene? Our friends at Europavox have curated a list of the top 10 female artists from Europe, making waves with their unique sounds and impactful narratives. Among these distinguished names is Ukraine's own FO SHO, the dynamic hip-hop trio renowned for their vibrant energy and poignant messages.

At the beginning of October 2023, Centre national de la musique invited 12 French and international songwriters to Artistic Palace  to take part in CNM International Songwriting Sessions. Over the course of a week, the participants worked on 16 new songs. Ukraine was represented by Alina Pash. These songs are set to grace our playlists in the coming months. For those eager to explore this sonic treasure trove, the full list of songs awaits at CNM International Songwriting Sessions 2023.

Before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has been a magnet for foreign artists and creators. The incredible landscapes that masterfully intertwine past and present inspired creators and made them fall in love with the country. Our vibrant film production scene has hosted the shoots of numerous well-known music videos, including hits like Ed Sheeran ft. Lil Baby's "2step," Mark Ronson ft. Miley Cyrus's "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart," Stromae's "Santé", Years & Years's "Shine", and Twenty One Pilots's "Nico And The Niners," among others.

Soon, we'll be adding another iconic video to this illustrious list. The Dutch metal sensation Within Temptation has chosen Kyiv as the setting for their pro-Ukraine anthem, "A Fool's Parade," set for release on April 5th. In an interview we highly recommend, Sharon den Adel, the band's charismatic frontwoman, shares her profound experiences filming in the city amidst the ongoing war, and why she is determined to continue spreading support for Ukraine.

It's heartening to witness artists from around the globe visiting Ukraine, offering support through meaningful contributions to our economy and the evolution of our music industry. Dive into the exclusive interview with Sharon den Adel and discover the story behind the music video: Link.

For the third year in a row, Impala - Independent Music Companies Association returns with its highly anticipated 100 Artists to Watch 2024 edition in collaboration with YouTube. This pan-European initiative aims to shed light on artists from various cultural backgrounds and genres, emphasising both inclusivity and representation across borders.

It's our pleasure to recommend prominent Ukrainian acts and contribute to the project. Please welcome Ziferblat, Disappeared Completely, and Structure of Happiness! Explore Ukrainian artists back to back with their 97 colleagues: Link.
