MEU March 2022 newsletter

Dear colleagues, hello.
Music Export Ukraine would like to update you on the music-related evens we had over the last month, despite the war and Russian aggression on the Ukrainian territory.

Every Ukrainian does the best that they can to help our beloved country: artists give interviews to foreign media, share the truth on social media, perform at charity concerts; music festivals shift focus from planning a future festival edition to helping with humanitarian aid; musicians join the military; music industry workers become volunteers, help army and refugees. The whole country united more than ever.

There are a couple of articles that we’d like to grab your attention to:
1. Sviatoslav Vakarchuk from Ukrainian rock mastodon band Okean Elsy, who is traveling across the country, performing for the troops and the people, shared his experience with Rolling Stones.

2. DakhaBrakha talked to New York Times“For 300 years, Russia did everything for Ukrainian culture to disappear. To be a free people is something that Russia hasn’t had for a very long time. They will never understand us. We will never understand them”.

3. Andriy Khlyvnyuk from other big rock band Boombox joined territory defense instead of doing music and told the BuzzFeed his motivation.

And don't miss the powerful pre-taped speech of our President Volodymyr Zelensky at the 2022 Grammy Awards introducing a performance for Ukraine from John Legend"Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals." Full video is here

MEU launched a support program for the Ukrainian music community.

Putin’s plan to invade and occupy Ukraine within 3 days completely failed. As you can see, it turned to be a devastating war with lots of damage, deaths, and losses. We need to think from a long-term perspective, and Ukrainian artists should continue working and be represented internationally. Thus, Music Export Ukraine starts a fundraising campaign to provide financial help to the local music community. If you feel like you’d like to donate to Music Export Ukraine NGO or share the informationhere you can find all the details.

Also, our colleagues from the major Ukrainian music festival Atlas together with ВАМП (The All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events) launch the collaboration project with festivals around the globe in the framework of their Music Saves UA initiative. Here you can check the brief presentation and find a way to join.

Besides, our colleagues from Shpytal Records and Kontrabass Promo launched Musicians Defend Ukraine charity foundation. Musicians in Ukraine become volunteers and joined the ranks of territorial defense. They need fuel for humanitarian aid, hemostatic drugs, helmets, body armor and even drinking water in the occupied cities every day and in large quantities. This initiative will target exactly those needs.

And… a small teaser from our team 👀
