ART MEETINGS! June to August 2022
ART MEETINGS is a series of events by Brakula Culture in Bramfeld & Music Export Ukraine. ART MEETINGS: Every two weeks from June to August in Hamburg, there will be film screenings on Thursdays and acoustic concerts by up-and-coming Ukrainian artists on Fridays. ART MEETINGS is supported by ART CONNECTS - aid fund for projects with cultural workers seeking protection. Entrance is free, but donations are welcomed.
ART MEETINGS is curated by:
- Ruzana Iemelianova - Ukrainian TV production expert (news department). At the same time she has been volunteering for the music and film festivals in Ukraine and internationally for 6 years.
- Alona Dmukhovska - co-founder of Music Export Ukraine. She has been working in the music industry for almost a decade. Since co-founding MEU, she has presented local talent at professional events in more than 20 countries, advocated for the needs of the sector in Ukraine and Europe, and implemented numerous international projects.
By Taras Dron, winner of the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival (2019): Young MMA fighter Yuliya has lost her fiancé in the war in eastern Ukraine. She starts a new relationship to free herself from the role of widow imposed on her by her outside world.
Romantic acoustic music by singer-songwriter Sophistication.
The one-woman band, is led by Kyiv-based musician Sofia Shvager. She combines an acoustic guitar with a piercing voice, resulting in a rather minimalistic, calm and chilling sound. A bit gloomy, a bit melancholic, but still calm and warm.
Young Hamburg music collectives play for Ukraine and a kindergarten in Prague. Guests are éspassiert Sound System, En Rie & Tribegut, toğrul and ToniT.
On the eve of the Bramfelder Stadtteilfest we welcome Gentle Ropes, a post-punk project from Kiev. The band will play at the Bramfelder Dorfplatz.
INGRET (Ingret Kostenko) is a free and exceptional artist with versatile vocals. INGRET's music - that is the eclecticism of genres. She experiments with musical styles, mixing indie pop, indie rock, trip-hop and folk in her songs. The career of Ingret Kostenko, a dreamy Ukrainian with German roots, was launched by popular talent shows. In 2015, she participated in the 6th season of X Factor, where she reached the third training camp and subsequently left the show. In 2017, she appeared on the stage of the TV show "Holos Krainy" ("The Voice of the Country"). In this singing project, she reached the finals and came in second place.
Immortalized as one of the most dazzling and uplifting Christmas carols, "Carol of the Bells", based on a popular Ukrainian folk melody, represents the spirit of unity throughout the world. The peaceful and neighborly coexistence of three families, one Polish, one Ukrainian and one Jewish, who shared a large house, musical evenings and merriment in the town of Stanislaviv in the years before and after the war, was shattered. First by the Soviet occupation and the persecution of the Polish family, then by the Nazi occupation of Ukraine and the decimation of the Jewish family. Risking their lives, the Ukrainian family manages to save their neighbors' children and their own daughter.
Vadim is twenty-five. He is a sound engineer and a pessimist. In three months he is going to Canada. For good. Before leaving, he is commissioned to record the voice of a very rare bird found only in the Transcarpathian mountains of Ukraine.
Postman (Kostiantyn Pochtar), is a Ukrainian musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter who shares his life between Kiev and Wroclaw. Postman represents the new wave of Ukrainian music that emerged after the Revolution of Dignity in 2013-2014. Although his main influences are from the 60s, his music is modern urban folk at its best. Postman has played hundreds of concerts in Europe and opened for numerous. Kostiantyn was born and raised in Kyiv.
The story is about Nazar and Max, two guys from Ukraine, and an old Soviet motorbike and the ambitious goal they set for themselves: to break the world speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA. This arid salt desert is the meeting place for hundreds of people from all over the world who spend millions of dollars to set the next speed record. Nazar and Max spend all their time assembling their motorbike in a small garage on the outskirts of Kiev, travelling hundreds of miles and overcoming countless obstacles to achieve their dream. And then, on the other side of the world, the two realise why they are there.
Constantine is an artist who's changing the modern pop scene. Talented vocalist and songwriter. Constantine’s sound is filled with soul, jazz and house, based on its rich experience of working with top celebrities (Ivan Dorn, Quest Pistols, Yuri Bardash, Gayana). Constantine's songs impress with inner freedom and ease of implementation of complex musical ideas.
The early 70s is a golden epoch of our popular music. Hundreds of songs of exquisite beauty. Groundbreaking sound. Futuristic suits. How and whence could all of this emerge in a Soviet socialist republic?. How did a brand new music scene, original in sound and philosophy in every way, and at the same time absolutely in sync with global music trends come forth? They weren't that fond of the Soviet label «VIA». And since neither of us is fond of this acronym, let us rechristen this music.
